Guilia toffana also known as Guilia tofana and Guilia tophana was born in Italy in 1620. When Guilia was just 13. Her was mother Thofania d'Adamo was executed for killing her husband. However, it is said that Guilia’s father was an aggressive person and he often beats her mother.
Giulia had a struggling childhood but not long after her mother's execution she also got married. At that time early age marriage was so common. Assaulting women and treating them as unpaid servants was also very common those days. Eventually, she also gets stuck in an abusive relationship. Divorce was not a thing at that time and Women used to have no rights.
In meantime, she used to make homemade cosmetic products which she learned from her mother. This was the only thing that gives her some kind of peace or enjoyment. After giving birth to a girl child which was considered a curse her life problems got even more daunting. In her eyes, history was repeating itself. One day, like her mother she also decided to get rid of her abusive husband. While practicing with her cosmetic products she created a poison called Aqua Tofana. Aqua Tofana was a colorless, smell-less, and tasteless poison that makes it impossible to discover after the person dies.
She killed her husband she opened a cosmetic store with her daughter. Her business was going well until she decided to help other women who were stuck in abusive marriages. To help other women she started selling Aqua tofana in her store.
But, getting a bottle of that poison was not as easy as it looked. Whenever a woman comes to her seeking help she’d do a background check whether the woman is really a victim or she is just playing games. After that, she’d give them proper training about how to use poison, how to mix it with soup, meal, or wine. And how they have to react after their husband gets ill. They had to pretend to be vulnerable, sad, and disturbed. This whole process takes around 2 months.
Everything was going well. Until a woman comes to Giulia seeking help. As usual, she gets her background check and training Giulia gives her aqua tofana. The woman went to her home and being a good wife she prepared a meal for her husband. As was instructed by Giulia she mixed the first dose of the aqua tofana into her husband's meal. He was just started eating and was about to take his first morsel of food, she immediately runs after him and snatches the Morsel from his hand.
By the time she can start making excuses for her act, he senses her intention was not good. He started beating her to get the truth out of her mouth. But, she didn’t spell a single word.
Her husband took her to the administration. After a lot of torture, she finally spells the truth out. However, Giulia got the smoke of the incident and she and her daughter hid away under the roof of the church. Soon after that the story of Giulia and her poison begun to spread around. People also started to spread the made-up story that she has mixed the poison in the area water pipeline. These stories lead to fulfilling people's minds with hatred against Giulia.
One day people gathered around the church and threaten the church authority to handover Giulia. Finally, church authority handed Giulia to the public. They take to the city council. During interrogation, Giulia admits that she has helped over 600 women to get rid of their abusive husbands. She didn’t remember their names but she did give some names. But when they started investigating those women but they denied all the allegations and asked for a fair trial. But due to no evidence, the city authorities relead those women but not Giulia as she confesses her crimes. She and her daughter got executed along with their three workers in 1659.
