First Hashtag: The Idea of Hashtag deemed “too nerdy” by Twitter executive

From morning tea to late-night dinner we have hashtags for everything. But, do you know how this trend started and what was the reason behind it or who started it? surely, not all of you even thought about it.

The idea of Hashtag first proposed by Christopher Reaves Messina who was known as an advocate for open-source software. On 23 Aug 2017, He suggested that using pound sign can be used for arranging the tweets. According to Messina, people were not convinced with the idea of using the pound sign and Some the individual including tweeter executive deemed the idea “too nerdy,”

Somehow, Messina manages to convince some of them. #barcamp was the first hashtag on Twitter that was used as an example of the concept. For further agreement, Messina elaborated the idea in a blog post, even drawing up designs of what the feature could look like on Twitter. She called them “channels” but the hashtag was suggested by Writer Stowe Boyd.

In 2007, people coalesced around the hashtag #sandiegofire to tweet about wildfires. The concept eventually caught on for everything from events to jokes. Twitter made hashtags an official feature in July 2009. Facebook copied the idea in 2013.
