Drunk basket- Turkish way to get rid of drunken people

Over drunk peoples always been problematic to bar-owners, special at closing time. In the 1960s,⁣ bars in 1960s Istanbul would hire someone to carry drunk people back home whose sole purpose was to take patrons home when they were too drunk to stand up. Bar owner tends to include extra transportation charge to their bills. Those drunk people often create riots in bars and get in fights or start messing around with people.



Most of the basket men were worked as a part-timer to make some extra money. In the Turkish basket, men are called “küfeci”, and the drunk people - who were being transported in that bucket-were called “küfe”. There’s also a saying in Turkey, “küfelik olmak”, which means “needing to be carried home in a basket”.⁣ However, There no exact incident in history that could describe how the idea of drunk baskets comes to practice.
