Muslim boy born with a tail worshipped as God 'Hanuman'

Balaji, 18, has become a divine symbol in the state of Punjab, India. Locals have hailed the teenager, who is wheelchair-bound, as a Hindu monkey god Hanuman - and refer to him as Balaji.


Teen boy has begun capitalising on a rare birth defect that left him with a seven-inch long tail protruding from the base of his spine and big ears, finding fame as an avatar of the Hindu god Hanuman. His condition stems from spina bifida, a syndrome that can cause the spinal column of a foetus to form incorrectly. A teenager boy known as Balaji is born into the Muslim-family, irrespective of the difference in religion, people have a superstitious belief in him.


Followers have claimed that his extra appendage has conferred spiritual healing abilities. Balaji said that people come and worship him, he conveys his follower's messages to God and his wishes come true. His home is now converted into the temple where worshippers gather to receive his blessings.



Charanjeet Kaur, 40, told us that she came out of a coma because of Balaji's blessings. Her husband and children worshipped to teen when was in a coma, which results in her better health. Balaji is a specially-abled child due to which his family have concerns regarding his health. Balaji believes that with or without his tail, his followers will have the same faith in him.
