  • Do you know that on the first day of spring, a person at the North Pole would see the sun skimming across the horizon, beginning six months of uninterrupted daylight. Whereas, a person at the South Pole would see the sun skimming across the horizon, signalling the start of six months of darkness.




  • Spring always arrives on either March 20 or 21, but sometimes it arrives early on 19th March. The reason the equinoxes and solstices don’t always come on the same day, as the Earth doesn’t circle the sun in exactly 365 days.

  • The first day of spring in the Southern Hemisphere is also the first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere.

  • Interestingly, Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon, following the spring equinox.


  • Do you know that the first day of spring is called the vernal equinox? The term vernal is Latin for spring and equinox is Latin for the equal night.

  • While the spring equinox typically occurs on March 20th or 21st, meteorological spring begins on March 1st, a month when an average temperature increases by 10 degrees over the month.



  • In the Southern Hemisphere, springtime lasts from August until November. Isn't this amazing?
